Everything was going well until the car got a flat tire, followed by a tire nipple, which we then learned is NOT A GOOD SIGN. It was strongly recommended that we didn't drive any further, and got a new tire immediately. A fate we accepted begrudgingly. So we spent the morning pretending to be small town teens and loitering around the Wallmart. Good times. <br /><br />These are the kind of things one can find at a wallmart. It was the first place in Japan that buddism hit, and has about 4 temples for every person in the town. Excellent touristing. One temple in particular had a narrow little passage way through a cave that was filled with tiny replicas of the giant buddah sculpture, which people leave as prayers. It is a little town right on the coast which ahs an amazing combination of surf-y vibe and historic zone. It is actually the first place in Japan that Buddism came to, and must have one of the highest consentrations of temples and monuments in Japan. Each area is considered a 'town' and a bike seems to have been voted the number 1 way to get around your hood. Also with the exhastingly complicated subway/train lines (plural times 5), and a very impressive population density, i think it could also be the best way to get around the whole city. Everybody had been talking it up the whole time that we were in taiwan, so i thought that it migth be one of those things that go really over hyped and then was disappointing. This was not the case. It was completely adorable and completely delicious. It was great to eat in such a lovely restaurant that had zero pretentiousness, our waitress even broke the cork in our wine bottle. Think mini-disneyland, but half outside and half in a mall, complete with a indoor pirate ship ride, which was way scarier than we expected, the drunken basket ride, and a CASTLE!!!!!.
